The Eulogy

Isn’t it enough
that we have to face
our own struggles?
What does God want from us?
God created us,
knows what we can
and can not do,
sees us,
and understands us better
than we know ourselves,
yet
will watch us fall between the cracks.

Are we destined to be backdrops
for something more?
Or are we to be players on center stage,
without scripts or direction,
even when we plead for hints?

What is expected from us?
Why? Why us? How was it decided
who would do what?
Who would be loved? Dismissed?

God, when will you appear?
Were be destined to search for you?
Will you ever appear?

Will you embrace us?
Will you give us a moment
to catch breath,
to feel at peace,
to feel something
other than wind pushing us
to extremes?

Or are we the foot soldiers in
some battle fought before us,
that will continue after we perish?

Tell us why we are here,
in this place, at this moment.
Will we ever be able to stand still
and witness the shadows we cast?
Will we ever find home?
Are we to be thrown about
forever, paying for the sins
committed by those before us?
Or will we find rest,
and be given the time to feel grace?
