Apologies Accepted Here

No hard feelings.
All reasonable offers considered.
Cash sales are final.
You are welcome here,
And everywhere that people of good will gather.

Something’s opened up inside me.
I closed the barn door,
But too late.
The horses had run away.
I closed my eyes,
But the poem had already escaped,
Into the fields,
No calling it back now,
Even with its favorite oats.

Peter Urkowitz lives in Salem, Massachusetts, where he works in a college library. He was drawn into the local poetry scene after the death of a poet friend, when the community came together to remember and reflect. He stayed as a spectator, and was soon led into writing his own work, and has been gratified by the warm and supportive response.
