Two Poems by Jamie Davenport

i’m gonna touch the pacific once again

i’m braless
sifting, twitching
blue cornflower mood
i confronted my sadness
and grew out my hair
i made peace with my body
and holy shit i’m honey dew
the donut
not some green
tasteless fruit
i had a psychotic breakdown
3,000 miles away
i was batshit looney
muttering to myself
under big black sonys
i drank a lot of dark beer
and almost threw up
on a british trump supporter
wish i had
but a nice cabby took me home
and he told me
to aim outside his door
i’m gonna dip my toes
in the pacific
once again
and this time
when i do it
i won’t wanna be dead
yeah
not even
in the deepest darkest backs
of my head
will i wanna be dead

i am still mad you locked me in a bathroom

hellfire will find you
i started the ember
been a good girl so long
surprised you remembered
stand up and trip
i tied your laces
i’m not meant to stagnate
i’m jello
i’m relentless
keep scratching
it’ll keep itching
you’re about to ooze
burn men who told me
i was born to lose
i’m preaching to the choir
and we’re all sopranos
fuck ceilings
our pitches
will shatter the nations
you remember psycho
now get in the shower
i’m laughing chaotic
you thought you had power

Poet Jamie Davenport: “I am a writer and performer in the Boston area. I manage a Coffee Shop in all my other time. My first print publication will be in the Writers Resist Anthology in October. Other than that, I wrote a Facebook status once that went viral, which resulted in me being published in the UK’s Independent. I enjoy writing poetry that makes you feel out of breath once you’ve read it.”
