Poem by Gabby Butler

(un)conscious

up ‘til now i haven’t been able to sleep
we build a fire to replace the sun
my thoughts are black i don’t have dreams

i see orange like halloween
visions haunt me now that night’s begun
up ‘til now i haven’t been able to sleep

it all grows back a yellow-green
the weeds and flowers have finally won
my thoughts are black i don’t have dreams

my mind is scattered in a massive heap
i lose control one by one
up ‘til now i haven’t been able to sleep

i have tried to swim up the stream
i hear a low boom of a gun
my thoughts are black i don’t have dreams

i lay in bed and count my sheep
i see myself as the setting sun
up ‘til now I haven’t been able to sleep
my thoughts are black i don’t have dreams
