Poem by Kiriti Sengupta

high rise

look at the egg-baskets around
you will find them of several designs
and varied shape
the most common being the ones
which look like a cage

no matter how tall your claim is
no matter how cool your lawn breathes

birds no longer fly high

like the eggs
we love to keep the birds
safe

Very nice poem by Dr. Kiriti Sengupta. What a beautiful thought on the comparison between freedom and love. We love eggs, so we keep them safe by putting them in a egg-basket. Its an open cage for the eggs, the eggs who are unable to move. We love birds as well, we keep them safe from the outer world through cageing them. Thats why “birds no longer flying high, no matter how tall your claim is, no matter how cool your lawn breathes”. In the last, the poet used the word “Safe” inspite of “Caged” very lyrically.

I read only three books from seventeen books he authored still now. To me he is not a poet who repesents our heart related issues, a general feature of the poems now-a-days. Rather he is a poet who who repesents the unknown world or the spiritual world very secretly through a very common and natural phenomenon. He used to write metaphorical short poems, prose-poetries which demand re-reading.
